The President of the Nanjing YMCA, Mrs. Li Enlin spoke first. She noted that the purpose of the this training program is to improve the service quality for the disabled(mentally retarded) , and enhance the overall development of service program for the disabled in Nanjing. The training program consists of several steps, namely the oversee field visit for the offical leaders, the domestic and overseas training camp for the managers, and the training class for the teachers in mainland China and assembly training in Hong Kong. Mrs. Li also pointed out that this training class will last for four sessions, and each session will train 40 teachers ,and 160 in total. The courses are all designed specifically for improving the service for the disabled. The lecuturers are from different professional fields of the Social Work, psychologcal counceling and the experts in specia education from Hong Kong. Nanjing YMCA and the Nanjing Disabled Persons’ Federation would pay for all the fees of the training course including the one-week training camp in Hong Kong. At the end of the speech, Mrs. Li mentioned one person, Mr. Fung, the senior volunteer from Hong Kong. He is aslo one of the initiators of this training program. Mr. Fung couldn’t make himself shown in the opening ceremony because he was ill caused by overloaded. Mrs. Li asked everybody to remenber his hard work and hoped that all the trainees can cherish this precious opportunity and congratulated the training camp in Hong Kong beforehand on the safety and smoothness. This program is sponsored by Areopagos, a Christian foundation.
Mr. Ji Qin later pointed out the glorious history and the modern responsibilities of the Nanjing YMCA and hoped that all the trainees should value this opportunity and achieve the goal , and won’t fail the learders. At last, he also wished the training program a big success.
Then, Mr. Xie Dejun made the conclusion. He first affirmed the contribution to serve the disabled by the Nanjing YMCA and the Nanjing Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau. In addition, he mentioned that the target of this training program is to make the service for the disabled professionlized and standardized, so that, the disabled affairs in Nanjing will be improved comprehensively.
In Mr. Xie’s speech, he summarized the characteristics of this training program.
1. The training program will last for a long time, from May to November, and nearly 300
ho hours.
2. The number of trainees is multiple, including the officers from the disabled persons’
federation who deal with the administration of the Disabled service and the teachers
from all of the disabled day care centers.
3. The high-level lecturers, including the renowned psychologists from Hong Kong and other
specialists in Nanjing.
4. A fairly abundant contents, involving the policies and regulations of the disabled service,
the standardization of disabled service, institute management, special education, social
work, psychological counseling, physical therapy, handwork and etc.
5. The variety forms of the training program, covering lectures, lessons and discussions,
moreover the training camp in Hong Kong. Such a long and large-scale cross boarder
training program is really rare in Jiangsu, even in China.
What’s more, Mr. Xie also proposed three requirements for all the trainees.
1. To cherish this precious opportunity, follow the rules, and obey the arrangements. Don’t
delay both the work and study but try to promote them, and then realize the traget of this
training program.
2. Expected all the trainees can apply the theories into practice and have a rational and
deep analysis in mind. Use the scientific concept to analyze the problems, and
constantly improve the trainees’ own quality and the practical working abilities.
3. Be guided by the belief of learning in order to practice it, and perservere the princlpe to
study is to apply. Make the theories that have learnt from become the motivation of
improving the actual work.
After the opening ceremony, all the trainees and the leaders took a group photo to mark the occasion. Later on, the trainees went back to the classroom and had the first class, the Group Leadership, given by Mr. Dai Jun, the professional trainer from the Nanjing Doing and Knowing Cultural Communication Center. Mr. Dai’s way of giving the lecture was attractive and interesting. There was really positive interactions among all the trainees. During the game show, the trainees learnt that only working in unity and help one anothe can get win-win results and survival. Just as Mr. Liu Jinrong, the President of the Association of the Disabled Day Care Centers, commented, this training program was creative and a breakthrough, which is diffrent from the traditional way of teaching. The program involved everybody and the trainees could learn from each other in order to achieve the progress together.
