On Sunday morning, March 24th, 2013, Nanjing YMCA organized first Free Rural Medical Service in this year to Sunlong Christian Church, Tangquan Neighborhood, Pukou District . The church located at the west outland of Pukou district, because of traffic inconvenience, the villagers would not go to hospital when they got slight illness. But, when they get serious ill due to not seeing the doctor in right time, which leads broken in their living. Under this circumstance, local church leaders seek the help from YMCA’s volunteering medical team.
In order to make this free rural medical service successfully, Nanjing YMCA organized 14 medical experts from internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, and respiratory departments, cardiovascular, brain branch, pediatrics and traditional Chinese medicine department of different hospitals in Nanjing to do their best to help these people. All the doctors regardless of their own ages, started to do diagnose for the villagers whatever the non-believers or believers who need to do medical exams after more than two hours ride on the bus. During the process of diagnose, some elderly people and children were found having very serious sickness, when asking them why not go to the hospital, there are different reasons, some are too poor to see the doctor; some are alone at home because their children go to work far away; some are disabled, difficult to move.
These villagers were very interested in the medical service, moved by the serious and responsible attitude of the doctors, and satisfied with the work done by the doctors. They hope Nanjing YMCA will continue to carry on this meaningful activity, for there are even more difficult people need to get medical help.
