On April 10th, 2013, Mr. Mike DeGuzman, Mr. Jim Cato and Mrs. Chen from America Vocation Language and CharacterSchool, came to Nanjing YMCA to discuss cooperation on organizing English Summer Camp for this year.
Mr. DeGuzman introduced the setting of curriculum and supporting requirements. It was assumed that there will be about 200 kids from age 8 to 18 join in this camp, and there will be around 30 foreign teachers participate in. We plan to start the camp from July 22nd to July 26th, one week. The goal of this camp is to impact Chinese children spiritually, morally, and socially by the means of a Bible-based English and character studies camp. For instance, through knowing about the story of Joseph, we wish them can learn how to forgive others who offended us. It will not just only about knowledge, but also practice in our daily life. Meanwhile, the class will be divided into 3 group by 3 colors, blue group means beginning level in English, red is intermediate level, green is advanced, and by songs, English as a Second Language curriculum, crafts, exercise, and relational teaching methods.
American guests also asked us to list 5 characters that Chinese children are lack of. We named such as honesty, perseverance, patience, service, humility, being grateful, respect, compassion and courage, etc. the characters our Chinese children shorted and to be improved.
This summer camp needs lots of manpower and material to support, so we start to recruit volunteers to do translation and logistic service.
