At 2 pm September 18th 2013, Nanjing YMCA & YWCA held the Charity Show themed “Love in the Mid-Autumn Festival” at the Youth Theater. The theater with 800 seats was fully occupied. Moreover, the leaders from Nanjing People’s Congress, Nanjing People’s Political Consultative Conference, Nanjing Municipal United Front Work Department, Nanjing Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau, Nanjing Disabled People Federation, Nanjing Civil Affairs Bureau, etc. attended this Charity Show.

Most of the talent shows for this Charity Show were wrote and performed by the students with intellectual disabilities. The students from Cien Center, which is a day care center affiliated to Nanjing YWCA, performed two touching songs, “You and Me” and “Cien, My Lovely Home”. The group dance “I’m Going to Yanan” performed by the students from Boai Shelter Home made all the audience feel warm even though the dance was not so perfectly performed. Ningxin Sunshine Home wrote, directed and acted a play named “My Favorite Fairy Tale”. The performers speared no effort to show the audiences the reality in their lives, broken in body but firm in spirit. Along with the music “Star of Yesterday”, Nanjing YMCA Taiji Rouliqiu team gained warm applause from time to time with their consummate skills. It seems easy to play the Rouliqiu, however, there is full of hardship when practicing. The mentally-retarded dancers passed on a message to everyone that no matter how hard the life is, to the best of their abilities, they can live up to their values. Later on, the volunteers from Nanjing YMCA Art Troup presented the Traditional Chinese Opera Mix of Huangmei Opera, Shaoxing Opera and Wuxi Opera.

At last, all the performers sang two songs “A Crescent is Rising” and “Go Back Home Often” under the lead of Nanjing YMCA Choir and brought the Charity Show to a climax. After the show, Ms. Li Enlin, the President of Nanjing YWCA, pointed out that even though the society today is not perfect enough, and the disabled people are still facing all sorts of trouble, we are families and everyone are obliged to spare no efforts to improve the living environment for them. Nanjing YMCA/YWCA and other day care centers are willing to repay the society with our humble and grateful hearts. We hope that trough this Charity Show, we can gather the love and power from all walks of life and make the society a warm family for everyone.
