In the beginning of spring, 2014, “Rainbow” choir inQiqiaoPrimary Schoolwas founded under and support from Nanjing YMCA, the members are consisted of more than 40 pupils selected from grade two to grade five in this primary school.

There are 406 pupils in Qiqiao primary school, in which 96% come from the family of migrant workers.  Many of them like music very much, however, the limitation in this school, it is hard for them to enjoy music. Nanjing YMCA has been supporting the pupils in financial hardship for several years.  This year, initiated by Nanjing YMCA, “Rainbow” choir was founded inQiqiaoPrimary Schoolfor making these children can enjoy the music as those in cities, and for cultivating the good personality and quality to them.  This is the first choir of students from the family of migrant workers inNanjing, and YMCA sends volunteers to train the student as vocal music teachers, such as Ms. Guo Meiying, retired national grade two singer of Jiangsu Provence Art Performance Group.  She is a volunteer of Nanjing YMCA after retirement, and working for our project of serving the orphans. Mr. Liu Nian, master degree of Nanjing University of Art, he comes to teacher the students with Ms Guo together, starting from basic vocal music: the rhythm, the method of sound production, and voice rehearsal.  On the Children’s Day, “Rainbow” choir made a performance on the stage in this school, and was confirmed and commended highly by all the teachers and leaders.

The key target of setting up this choir is to make these kids become a helping hand through receiving free service, especially help the most in needy, the disabled and the elderly people.  Rainbow symbolizes hope and good wishes, we hope this small group can sing and demonstrate the harmonious of the society and the happy of study!
